Brickhill vs Aylesbury
With two first team regulars away today, a new formation was required and Angus stepped into goal with Ewan dropping back to defence to replace Cameron. A strong wind and low sun made conditions difficult for both sides. However, the game started well with the Hawks making some sublime passing moves through midfield and both sides making full use of the pitch.
Perseverence paid off and just before 15 minutes, Josh netted a storming shot with his right foot after a magnificent link up with Fred. Not to be outdone, Aylesbury took the game to the other end and won two corners in quick succession - to no avail.
The game continued apace and some excellent football was on display. Could this be our day? Hawks were building their moves from midfield and Niall, showing great ball control, flicked the ball through to Elijah who put it away.
However, by the end of the first half, Aylesbury had levelled the score, their first goal almost happening by accident and their second being a superb shot which gave Angus no chance. Our defenders were put to the test for the rest of the half and the break was a welcome breathing space.
After the whistle, the wind continued to play a part making goal kicks and high balls unpredictable. Both teams maintained their quality into the second half and for the observers it was an even and well balanced game. Hawks won a corner and Josh put away his second of the match.
By this time, the desire to win was strong on both sides and the physicality of the game notched up a level. Aylesbury levelled and in the last 5 minutes went one ahead. Final score Brickhill 3 - Aylsebury 4.
Well done everyone - you didn't win, but I think that was the best football you've played for a long time. The results will come if you continue to play like that.
Special mentions to Jay for fitting effortlessly into the team and to Angus for a stirling performance in goal, and to Ewan for some attacking defending.
